Natural Cement repair to concrete window cills

The client contacted us, worried about the worsening cracks in the concrete sills of his three front-facing windows. Recognising the potential hazards of falling debris, we inspected the damage and recommended the immediate removal of all cracked and loose materials. To restore the sills’ structural integrity and appearance, we proposed repairs using “Natural Cement,” known for its durability and compatibility with existing concrete structures.

Problem

The customer was concerned that the delaminating concrete sills could pose a serious safety hazard. With cracks worsening, he feared that sections of the sills might eventually loosen and detach entirely. Given that his neighbours regularly parked their cars directly below these windows, there was a significant risk of damage to the vehicles. Even more concerning was the possibility that falling concrete could injure someone walking below, particularly his neighbours. This potential danger was a major source of anxiety for the customer, prompting him to seek a swift and effective solution to prevent any accidents or property damage.

Solution | Concrete Window Cill Repair

We recommended a comprehensive approach to address the issue, starting with the careful removal of all cracked and loose sections of the sills. This step was crucial to prevent any further deterioration and to eliminate the immediate safety hazards posed by the compromised concrete.

Once the damaged material was removed, we advised that the sills be properly stabilised to restore their structural integrity. This involved using specialised repair techniques and materials that would not only reinforce the existing structure but also ensure long-lasting durability.

By stabilising the sills, we aimed to prevent future cracks and protect against potential damage, ultimately providing the client with peace of mind that the repairs would hold up against the elements and daily wear

Method

Working externally from tower scaffolding, our operatives applied a rust stabilizer to the exposed reinforcing bars of the cill, shuttered the cills with timber, then packed the shutter with “Natural Cement”. Once the cement had cured, the cills were buffed down and a coat of external paint was applied.

Benefits

The client was delighted with the neat job that the technicians left.
