Penetrating Damp Problems
Water will always follow the path of least resistance, and unfortunately what this means is that penetrating damp problems are caused primarily by defects with the exterior of the building itself. This could be anything from defective porous masonry or render, damage to the roof or rainwater goods to poor door and window pointing.
In most cases wear and tear, cracks and fabric defects are the culprits to blame. For example, if the dampness patch is found at guttering height, start by checking your downpipes and gutters for potential leaks. Accurate diagnosis is important before the correct repair specification can be decided as wrong diagnosis and repair specification will not solve the damp problem… and cost more by having to do the work twice.
Damp Treatment & Repairs
The first thing which we’ll do is carry out a property survey. Once we’ve established the nature of the problem, we can treat penetrating damp with traditional building techniques and using our damp proofing systems– repairing the damage which allows the damp in and then applying a physical membrane or chemical water repellent.
Whether your home is brand new or has been build for years it can be affected by dampness. Bear in mind that treatment done by yourself may not be successful as it is easy to misdiagnose the form of damp affecting your property. Therefore, it is highly recommended to call out our qualified surveyor who will visit your property, identify the damp source and evaluate the scale of repairs needed. Contact our Oban branch for advice or a property survey.
Property Survey
Our qualified rot surveyor will closely investigate the affected area and measure the scale of the problem. At Richardson and Starling, we only supply experienced surveyors who are highly trained in all types of rot and damp problems that could affect your property. This means that our surveyor will be able to complete the survey and give the appropriate remedial recommendations no matter what problem is identified.
